About Global Game Jam
“The Global Game Jam® (GGJ) is the world's largest game jam event (game creation) taking place around the world at physical locations. Think of it as a hackathon focused on game development. It is all condensed into a 48 hour development cycle. ” The structure of a jam is usually that everyone gathers on Friday late afternoon, watches a short video keynote with advice from leading game developers, and then a secret theme is announced. All sites worldwide are then challenged to make games based on that same theme, with games to be completed by Sunday afternoon.

This year’s GGJ theme was “Home”, and our team chose to do a VR game.

Inspiration
People shared their ideas about the theme “Home” on the whiteboard. Our group’s concept was “home is a place that needs to be cleaned up”.
To be more challenging, we decided to add a “mom” game character. In our game, the player should hide all shamefully suspected items, or be subject to the judgmental wrath of mom!

Time Arrangement
Jan 25th: The first meeting started at 5pm. After forming our teams, we decided our game concepts until 9pm.
Jan 26th: Kept working from 11am to 10pm.
Jan 27th: Figured out issues from 10am to 4pm, and handed in our project at 5pm. The showcase started at 6pm.

Discussion
3 hours was used to confirm our game concept, decided games tasks, designed scene style and other details. Then a plan was made for the following two days:
Programmers used cube placeholders to simulate character movements and interactive objects. With insufficient modellers and time, I searched models at first then modeled some missing objects. This plan could help both programming and art aspects to become more efficient.

My Role
As the only 3D modeller in this 7-person group project, I designed the main game scene and assets. Because of the time limit, there were some decorations which I found from legally free websites.

Coloring
The requirement was to upload our game at the end of this activity and there was a limitation for the file size. To keep the small file size, we decided to just add colors to each model instead of many textures.
To avoid some transmission problems, default color was used when modeling in MAYA, and then colors were added in Unity.
