Introduction

ICTUS Audio's lead creator Yao Wang has harnessed the studio's innovative 3D audio techniques to breathe new life into the legend of Peach Blossom Springs ( 桃花源记 ). The ancient Chinese fable tells of a lost fisherman who stumbles upon a tiny village sheltered from the world, where people live in absolute harmony with their natural environment. Flow lets you look through the fisherman’s eyes as he drifts through the village on the river's current, and see into the lives of the river folk.

Animated in traditional Chinese water painting style, this piece uses full 3D visuals and audio to depict the villagers with both surreal beauty and acute aural fidelity. This lends the scene a hyperreal quality, featuring characters which are both abstract and more realistic than those that could appear in traditional media. Ethereal, elegant, and gracefully drawn, the life of the villagers unfolds before the viewer, depicting a world of Utopian beauty that it could only exist in the lens of VR.

My Role

Working with ICTUS studio to create an immersive music experience. My role is VR painter and animator. Animations and images were designed in Oculus Quill. The development of the new Quill can generate beautiful water painting brushes and the better animation system is easier for me to follow the music rhythm.

After exported Quill brushes to fbx files, I put them into Unity 3D, set up the camera position, then exported to Adobe Premiere to add more transition effects.
